Action Painting

"One Second Action Painting" (60 second detail) Analogue Video (6 hours total length).

Although the idea began primarily as an investigation into the creation of one second action paintings and performances, drawing inspiration from the work of artists from the 50's and the Fluxus art movement, the work itself is a perceptual study of duration and movement, an exploration of the event itself, the act of creation without the need for a final outcome or 'finished' object.

The video is made up of six one second action paintings. The actions paintings are repeated in sequence for six minutes, then each one second clip is slowed down to last for one minute, and again played in a sequence which lasts six minutes. Each of these six minute sequences are then repeated for the total duration of six hours.

The soundtrack for each one second action painting is repeated constantly without alteration for the duration of the video.
