About Dave Hurn

I have been based in Carlisle since 2000, where I moved to undertake a BA Fine Art degree course at Cumbria Institute of the Arts. After graduating in 2003, I continued to develop my working practice and methodologies, and in 2007 I began studying on a full time MA Contemporary Fine Art course at the University of Cumbria, from which I graduated in 2008.

Throughout my art career, the focus of my work has been based around gathering, collecting and collating conceptual thought based art ideas, dealing primarily with issues of authorship and creation, with much of the work starting from a simple idea in a text based format.

My recent work has been focussed around dealing with issues of science, technology and the humanity of creation and thought in contemporary art and society, looking to further question the generation and authorship of our thoughts and ideas. This has been developed through the design and construction of the idea generating machine, which in turn has produced a large body of work developed by people using the machine to generate ideas from their own thoughts.

I am currently in the process of developing these ideas further, and producing a series of Blueprint plans, printed with a traditional Cyanotype photographic process, for the designs to be constructed from at a later date.
