Idea Generator

The Idea Generating Machine has been created as a response to my idea and thoughts of science, technology, and the humanity of thought and creation in contemporary art and scociety, looking to question the generation, ownership and authorship of the thoughts and ideas we produce.

The machine is operated by a user who rides the exercise bike to generate the necessary power to run the machine. When the correct level of power is achieved, the machine scans the users thoughts, translates them into an idea for a work of art, art machine or object, which is then typed out using a typewriter, with the keys being depressed by mechanical 'fingers'. These ideas are then filed away, including the users name, to be designed in a blueprint format for construction at a later date.

The blueprints are designed and created using a CAD program, before being printed using the

original Cyanotype Photographic printing process dating back to the 1840's.

Idea Number 1: Idea Generator User Name: Dave Hurn

Idea Description:

Construct a machine that is capable of reading and translating human thoughts into text based ideas for art works, art machines, useful items and various other artifacts.

The machine should read the users brainwave function when they are using the machine, which will then translate the thoughts electronically through a computer program to give a printout of the best idea that the user could have thought of at that time.

The user will power the machine by pedalling an exercise bike that is attached to an electro-magnetic generator: when the correct level of power is acheived by pedalling, the machine starts up and reads the thoughts of the user.

The idea that is created through using the machine will be typed out onto a typewriter through an armature of mechanical fingers that sit over the keys of the typewriter and use small mechanical pistons to push the keys down and move the page across and up, typing out the idea so it can be recorded, stored, and taken on to be designed and constructed at a later date.
