Idea Number 21: Drawing Machine 3b User Name: Dave Hurn

Idea Description:

Construct a drawing machine out of old car parts that can be operated by a person sitting in a car seat within the machine.

The user should control the machine via a series of cables, ropes, pulleys and pedals. The canvas/drawing surface will be moved from left to right through the user turning a car steering wheel which is connected to a steering rack from a car, which is then connected to the canvas/drawing surface via cables and pulleys which control the movement of the canvas/drawing surface along a channel to guide it along.

The marks should be made on the canvas/drawing surface by a number of pens which are controlled in height via cables and pulleys connected to cranks located next to the user and the car seat. The mark will be made by the pen being pushed forwards onto the canvas/drawing surface by cables and pulleys connected to pedals in front of the user and the car seat.

Through steering the canvas and moving the height of the pens the user is able to reach all areas of the canvas/drawing surface from the car seat.

The user can change the colour of the pens being used before and during the drawing process if they wish.
