Landscapes & Bears

"Designer Nature" (Industrial Landscape Series Untitled 1, 2 & 3), 2mm Sheet Steel, 100cm X 200cm.

This work is a series of landscapes, inspired by Romantic Sublime landscape paintings by Turner, Freidrich and Rosa, and the manipulation of nature to create an improved aesthetic. These images were produced using a plasma cutter to 'paint' the lanscapes into the metal to create an industrial version of the Sublime Aesthetic these artists were striving to achieve.

The reworking of Nature to achieve a more perfect vision, the need to create the perfect landscape, to improve on nature itself is a desire that has been going on for hundreds of years, from wealthy land owners moving valleys to get a better view as they leave their house in the morning, people and organisations manufacturing landscapes so they remain the same as they were a hundred years ago. People landscape gardens and redesign nature from being inspired by the world around us, just as artists collect and procreate imagery and ideas to find influence and produce their own version of perfection.
